A FEW WORDS FROM THE OWNER - FRANK SWANEPOEL

Welcome to Signal Hill Paragliding. If you allow me, I will share with you my passion for aviation. As a youngster I flew model aircraft and always wished I can be a real pilot flying amongst the clouds. In 2003 my paragliding journey began with a few solo flights in the Garden Route. I was immediately hooked to this amazing sport. I worked with the largest and oldest paragliding schools in Cape Town for a few years. Passion, dedication, and the love of the sport eventually brought me to the point where I now own and run Signal Hill Paragliding.

Signal Hill or Lion’s Rump as it was known before, is part of the Table Mountain National Park to the West of Cape Town city bowl.

Signal Hill got its name during the 17th and 18th centuries when Dutch settlers used signalling flags to communicate weather warnings and instructions to the arriving ships below. They would also use cannons to alert Boland farmers that ships are arriving and in need of fresh produce.

It is the stretch of mountain that runs from Lion’s Head towards the V&A Waterfront and the DHL Stadium (built for the 2010 Soccer World Cup). It offers breath taking aerial views of Cape Town.
